The Church teaches that the promise of union with Christ is nothing less than divinization, life "with Christ in God". It is not merely life as we know it now prolonged through eternity. Rather, by the Sacraments, we are infused with the very life of God Himself, and united with the Godhead through Christ.
That is a much greater promise than any of us really understand.
