Inscriptions are now open for the II Urban and Periurban Agriculture Seminar in the Federal District, with the theme 'Health surveillance and the development of intersectoral actions for prevention and mitigation of the impacts of pesticides on health and the environment'. The event will be held on the 12th and 13th, from 8am to 5:30pm, at the Fiocruz Brasília auditorium, located at the Darcy Ribeiro University Campus of the University of Brasília (UnB). The initiative is from the Integrated Health Practices Management (Gerpis) of the Health Secretariat (SES-DF), in partnership with Fiocruz Brasília. The seminar aims to promote dialogue between health, agriculture, environmental, and civil society sectors, strengthening the role of health surveillance in identifying and mitigating the impacts of pesticides on the population and the ecosystem. The initiative also aims to foster integrated and aligned actions for the promotion of health and food and nutritional security. Confirmed speakers include Professor Wanderlei Antonio Pignati, a researcher from the Environmental and Occupational Health Studies Center (Neast) at the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT), internationally recognized for his work on the topic. The program will cover the effects of pesticides on health, with a lecture by Wanderlei Pignati on the scenario of agricultural defenses in Brazil, a roundtable with federal institution specialists, and activities such as a walk through the Agroecological Medicinal and Bioenergy Garden at Fiocruz, as well as discussions and debates on integrative health practices. On the second day, attention will focus on mitigating the effects of pesticides and health education, with presentations on pesticide residue surveillance and control, occupational exposure panorama, and policies supporting urban agroecological agriculture in the Federal District.
