One of my caving friends who I've known for over two decades and was an ally when we served on a nonprofit cave land trust board is going to die. He spent his adult life like I have, exploring caves and rappelling into deep pits and off cliffs. A month ago he fell ten feet off a scaffold at his home and has permanent brain damage.
