Nostr has incredible potential - more than most of us can imagine.
I wonder if it would be smart to have a nostr book archive to save books at risk of censorship? I don’t know how it would be done. Maybe begin by copying the Gutenberg project?
For decades, some district librarians in the US, have been quietly removing certain #books from public reach.
For example, in the 1980s, my mom went to a public library in Colorado to borrow a few books by Flavius #Josephus. She wanted to read unbiased historical accounts about #Jesus.
All works by Josephus had been removed a few months prior to her arrival. The reason listed was “Lack of interest “.
My mom asked the librarian who was familiar with his works. She discovered that the books were FREQUENTLY checked out and sometimes had a waiting list.
The “lack of interest“ statement was a lie. The librarian my mom spoke to was as mad as my mom and admitted that she saw the district person in charge doing this with other materials also.
So, the question remains. Does it make sense to preserve works at risk of #censorship and is nostr the right platform?
