I've seen the Covid hypothesis a fair bit, and there are some reasonable mechanisms and some extant research that could be relevant, but I'd be very reluctant to treat it as more than that yet, personally. I've seen more than one person getting very scared, angry, or judgemental of others over entirely anecdotal evidence (and worse, evidence they were expecting to see).

I also wonder if it's (partly/wholly/not at all) a pandemic effect, rather than particularly a Covid one. We're still seeing social and political upheavals that've been influenced or accelerated by living in pandemic times.
