New research on the complexity of CEO remuneration packages (across Europe as listed in the Stoxx600 index) suggests they are getting more complex.
Why, might you ask, is CEO pay becoming more complex?
Well, one clear answer is that it allows boards to obscure & 'camouflage' over-pay for fellow executive board members.
It may also allow different measure to discount poor performance when 'performance' is supposed to drive remuneration.
Complex pay packages are intended to confuse & mislead.
