Lots of discussion around this lately! For many, it's lost the original meaning. For me, it's still an umbrella term for art made with code, such as shaders, computational canvas art, and including AI models.

The term was in use by generative artists before it was appropriated by web3 and then appropriated again by AI. To make matters more confusing, there's overlap across these spaces.
