i dunno why but all game genre categories are just kind of annoying to me and don't seem to actually work as any kind of taxonomy. people are just endlessly pulling terms out of their ass to describe stuff that doesn't really bear any resemblance to anything unless it's a more-or-less exact clone of something else. i worry that it's constraining the medium a lot to have people talk about things that way
