does this mean you're against features where clients filter notes from your threads even if they're still there at the protocol level? I don't see how thats different than a public mute. Its not perfect but it provides lots of information for clients to make ui decisions based on user preferences. For example, marking a thread as friends-only replies. Its technically "muting" non-friends but its purely a ui thing that other clients can ignore.

Having your mute list public would just allow clients to filter stuff from your threads that you might not want on there. If it's encrypted only you wouldn't see it and other clients couldn't even try to filter it.
