Well, I don't know exactly what you mean by "woke era". I am currently running a 5e game (my son found D&D via Baldur's Gate 3), and having a great time of it. We're playing Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan.
My preference is for B/X because it is simple and very easy to modify. Other editions, including 1e, are much harder to hack because they have a lot of additional rules built in.
