I recently defined gp as equivalent to ancient drachmae in my Glimmermark Labyrinth Lord game, because it was the closest to a reasonable historical coin (already considering the coins are way too big to make any sort of sense in stock #dnd). Also my setting is kind of post-hellenistic anyway.

Now I actually was thinking of just calling the currency drachmae as well, **because they are obviously what dragons hoard.**
