non-expert guess: Ireland is not in Schengen, so to go from Ireland to e.g. Greece or Spain you’d still need to show a passport with all the entry requirements in order. Not a problem if you have an Irish (EU) passport, but the fact that you’re arriving from Ireland doesn’t make any difference.
