They *can* divest their buildings, but commercial property prices (not my area of expertise, admittedly) appears to have been in the toilet recently, and any large-scale increase in supply will create crashes which literally bankrupt swathes of firms.
We talk about control over workforce as being primary factors in opposing WFH, but there are real economic concerns in the short term. As ever, when that storm has passed, whatever's cheapest will prevail. Probably WFH.
