FWIW, I'm an "Embedded Software Engineer" mostly, and have worked for big and small orgs. Never really wanted to found my own startup...
But "self-help" is not dead. The engineers who built your product don't forget how to do that again if they get cut loose. And they know where the bodies are buried too.
But there is an overall theme to "Open Source" (rather than proprietary IP), and that seems to be that cooperation is better than dominance.
And ALL software is "AI".
