BEFORE something becomes an emergency, know how much addressing it should cost.
Quite a few scammers in quite a few industries love to stack charges on people they think are unaware of how much something should, actually, cost.
The funeral industry is notorious for this, as are shady dentists, mechanics, contractors/plumbers, *anyone* who can upsell you when you feel you have no choice.
