This has to do with feature completeness and giving more choice to the user than they know what to do with.
The hammering of relays from the general relay category comes from the old design of kind 3 relay lists. If I understand the situation, this user should put your relay in his outbox (home) relay only, so that his posts go there and as a follower you would find his posts there, meanwhile his amethyst client would not be looking for anything else there.
