"summary",
"The article provides a detailed account of the 1997 Iranian presidential election, highlighting the unexpected victory of reformist candidate Mohammad Khatami over conservative candidate Ali Akbar Nategh-Nouri. It explains how Khatami's campaign focused on issues such as civil society, political development, and freedom of expression, which resonated with the Iranian people. The article also mentions the role of the reformist movement, which was initially skeptical of Khatami's candidacy but eventually rallied behind him. The election was seen as a major upset, with Khatami winning with over 20 million votes, a significant margin over Nategh-Nouri."

The reformists themselves have said that when we introduced Khatami as our final candidate, we were pursuing two goals; first, not to abandon the electoral arena and second, if we did lose, to at least experience a dignified defeat. However, the card turned over and the generation of change-seekers who had gone through the war and had a desire for political-cultural change, initially perhaps inclined towards Khatami as a symbol of the right wing's rejection.\nhttps://www.entekhab.ir/fa/news/867417/%D8%A8%D8%A8%DB%8C%D9%86%DB%8C%D8%AF-%DA%86%D8%B1%D8%A7-%D9%85%DB%8C%D8%B1%D8%AD%D8%B3%DB%8C%D9%86-%D9%86%DB%8C%D8%A7%D9%85%D8%AF-%D9%88-%D8%AE%D8%A7%D8%AA%D9%85%DB%8C-%D8%A2%D9%85%D8%AF-%DA%AF%D8%B2%D8%A7%D8%B1%D8%B4%DB%8C-%D8%A7%D8%B2-%D8%B1%D9%88%D8%B2%D9%87%D8%A7%DB%8C-%D9%85%D9%86%D8%AA%D9%87%DB%8C-%D8%A8%D9%87-%D8%A7%D9%86%D8%AA%D8%AE%D8%A7%D8%A8%D8%A7%D8%AA-%DB%B7%DB%B6",
