There's another factor: fragmentation
No pic will ever be as clear as the first post. Each time it's compressed, shared, etc, it will slowly lose details and become more and more fragmented. I've watched a lot of porn repost accounts over the years, and it was always fascinating watching a sexy pic degrade with time. Or, more surprisingly, someone posting up a version of the pic that was closer to the original source than I'd ever seen.
