Nothing Elvis ever did beats the raw stomping energy of 'Maybellene'.
And yes, I do recognise the fact that the topic of the song's lyrics is something I absolutely despise. Connecting the 'sexiness of cars' with masculinity is something I loathe when I encounter it today.
But I will simply concede that the song is so frigging simple and just good, and the lyrics in this case well and truly are 'of their time'. Doesn't free them from criticism but ultimately, for me, not a deal breaker.
It's a good song, y'all.
(and it, arguably, started Rock'n'Roll....and as much as I try to listen to a lot of stuff, I will always be a sucker for guitars even though I could not play one for the life of me)
