If someone said to me, "You look like a lesbian", I'd probably say "thanks" or "OK," with an added shrug.
Even if that policewoman thought she could tell from the tone that it was meant to be taken as an insult, she made an active choice to interpret the words as such. "You look like a lesbian" is only an insult to a homophobe.
But on top of that, police enjoy dragging young women around and terrifying them. If a burly 6'4" man had said, 'You look like a lesbian," I doubt there would have been the same response.
