Just a thought, wouldn't it be technically possible to have an additional instance named something different, that subscribes to the same hashtags and users, in order to determine what the missing posts are, and then insert them into the feed of the users of the main instance?
At least it would be interesting to measure the amount of traffic lost due to banning.
