Mobile devices feel like a dead end because iPhone and iPad are still locked down in core places like photos, and rely on closed databases literally everywhere instead of a filesystem, Google's stuff is constantly collecting every piece of data it can get, and none of their development teams really seem to talk with one another, and open source apps are still sometimes underdeveloped in core areas in comparison to the two I just mentioned, either intentionally (to prevent the CIA from spying on you), or simply because it's only 3 people working on it in their free time.
