There probably won’t be a woman who ever loves you like your mother. She made you, in her mind your flesh shows up as “ME” in her biological IFF.

Don’t go looking for a mother in a woman, you’ll never find it. In a lot of ways, you shouldn’t need it either. If there was a shortfall of love as a kid, you probably can’t just make that up by wishing it into being. You’ll have to get it by giving it, and you’ll probably get most of it from your kids.

Which is why we need to have our kids learn how effective and meaningful it is to do the tiniest shows of affection. People want love and intimacy but they never give it out. When’s the last time you had a heart to heart with your dad and told him thanks, or praised him in a real, lasting, tear-jerking way?
