I started Bitcoin Core development a bit more than a year ago - today I had my 100ᵗʰ commit merged \:D/. <It ain't much, but it's honest work>, and it's one of the most important projects one can work on.
If you're enthusiastic about Bitcoin and want to help (and have a reasonably thick skin), there's a lot of code review and testing work that is greatly needed!
