thinking about my "upgrade" (expansion) plans a bit more, prices for used gear have dropped enough that I think I can limit myself to mini PCs that can take 64GB RAM. this includes at least some mini PCs with Intel 9th generation CPUs and definitely 10th generation, and it eliminates the 8700T from consideration in most (all?) cases.
this means I can use the RAM for two generations when I eventually upgrade to a Zen 3 / 3+ system.
