(Sending again - had some problems with the metadata on my replies)
That's actually my stack exchange question - I think we might be thinking along similar lines.
So you can generate a BTC address from the key, but it might be risky to create a signature to retrieve that BTC - I think its a theoretical risk, and there's two differing opinions on it. I decided not to take the risk, but it would have made my integration a lot simpler.
