This is a technical point I guess but a massive strategic one. Too many research teams do not give themselves the protection of practices like preregistration which not only makes your science more transparent, imho it can protect you from a late-state vulture telling you you can't publish something because you have a public precommitment. These scientific practices are not just for academics, they can be used to protect applied scientists.
