I’ve seen many previews of iPadOS 17 that comment that Lock Screen widgets aren't as useful without an always-on display.
That's true to a point, but one place where they are valuable is if you use Universal Control.
When I have my iPad next to my Mac's screen and want to focus, I move my cursor to the iPad, and activate Notification Center to see Lock Screen widgets.
I get the benefit of my widgets without the distraction of the apps on my iPad.
