Well, I guess there will be a consequence from that. Something like a checkmark? Will relays priorities or differentiate between nip05 accounts and “normal” accounts?
It will reduce in the beginning spam, I supposed. It is however not a user friendly authentication method. And the “problematic user” that spams will be advanced enough to circumvent.
Also NIP05 does not authenticate in the sense of person x is who the person says they are, it only shows that a particular pub key has control over a domain, or cooperates with someone who does. No?
I am just asking to learn, so please correct me if I am overlooking something? 🙏🏻
From my little tech understanding, it seems to be a struggle between mass adoption and spam prevention. NIP-05 does not seem doable for everyone. However, guiding a user to mine a pub key (POW) -to the extent it is easy to follow the steps and is doable on a mobile- seems to make more sense. A paid check could be an alternative to POW if someone does not want to wait and put the work.
Question is if such a (low mobile POW) barrier is enough to slow down bots and spam…
