"imperial ideology"
It's not ideology per se. Imeprialism is part of "national identity". Ideologies appear afterwards to explain and put it into words (because this is how the human brain works: no words = confusion, ambiguity, hesitation; words = common & unifying). But ideology in itself is only secondary/tertiary.
