I used to hate on SystemD until I took the time to actually learn it tho. It is ridiculously powerful as a suite, coupled with NixOS it became a killer duo for me.
I also used OpenRC which is also cool as an init system. But SysD offers other things aside from an init system which simply have no replacement.
