No they didn't - they knew a more important trick. The separate power bricks in various forms for different input voltages, frequencies and god knows what else for each jurisdiction output lower voltages so that the ebike maker is outside of craploads of per country regulatory nightmares. It's such an enormous regulatory compliance win that it outweighs any other consideration, and that will not get fixed.
