The Beave on Nostr: I don't think you realize how much plastic is used for LITERALLY EVERYTHING. I ...

I don't think you realize how much plastic is used for LITERALLY EVERYTHING.

I started to realize this when I started to figure out a water filter system that had NO plastic components. Guess what? Nearly all water filters have plastic bits. You can source stainless housings and pipe. You can use copper for delivery. But... Filtering media nearly ubiquitously utilizes plastic.

Granted, a decent RO filtration system with a good stainless accumulator tank is still worlds better for you than most water you'll drink, but... Try to find a faucet that doesn't have plastic bits somewhere in the water path. It's even hard to find old-school natural rubber hose.

Plastic is in most ways, fiat-minded garbage for your home, food, and clothing.
Yes, but, the reason for that is our purchasing power has been so eroded that most can't help but choose cheaper options as the quality options have dwindled with the de-industrialization over the last century.

Think about it:

How many dairies can source locally made glass containers that are nearly infinitely recyclable?

Even the wax paper that butchers tend to use is made who knows where and coated with plastic or petroleum.

As much as I hate laws that force people to use their own shopping bags, before plastic, everyone had naturally made food transport and storage options. Many of those would last longer than the cheap plastic junk used today.

It is nearly impossible to buy food that hasn't been touched by plastic, watered by plastic, stored in or transported by plastic, etc.
