MAN-YI, a strong typhoon, struck Luzon, the largest island in the Philippines in terms of population, causing floods, landslides, and high waves, according to the National Weather Service, in the sixth major storm to hit the country in a month. MAN-YI was classified as a strong typhoon when it struck the land for the second time in Luzon with winds reaching a maximum speed of 185 km/h, before gradually weakening as it passed over the mountainous island. Around 2,000 people are sheltering in emergency centers set up in the town of Debut in Aurora province.
