These days, while reading fiction, I do so through the lens of a person thinking about crafting a story of their own. I get the idea of having the various mile markers along the way you might attempt to write to and from, but a lot of the details about time passing or describing the world around the characters worry me. How am I supposed to do that? Sure, I can describe a room… but showing and not telling as well as the flowery language most of these authors use? It feels beyond me. I guess I should start at the obvious point of plotting it out and just take the incremental steps and stop thinking so much…
