That was shocking what you described, another time I'd just sit still and not approach and allow her to do whatever she feels she needs to to reestablish her sense of safety. She's obviously suffered before coming to you, and you are only seeing this now because she has come so far in getting close to you. Something to commend you both for, to now be seeing the deeper stuff, wherever it comes from. I'd try to keep from you mind whatever conclusions you try to draw from what she suffered. What matters is you reestablished safety with her quickly afterwards in this instance.

She'll get there, and even if she doesn't, you'll get used to it more.
