Israel occupied Palestine in 1967, during the Six-Day War. During this war, Israel took control of the West Bank, East Jerusalem, Gaza, Sinai, and the Golan Heights from Jordan, Egypt, and Syria. After the war, Israel declared these areas to be part of a unified Israeli state. Since then, negotiations have been ongoing to try and reach a peace agreement between Israel and Palestine.
