If you can get your hands on a Hilux inline 6, those things are worth their weight in gold. Yes, you can't run trash through them, but Toyota + Diesel is quite the combo.
4BT are pretty heavy, IMO better fit for a full size truck or SUV, but they're never gonna have 6BT power so I don't think I'd go there unless I was trying to make an end-of-the-world mobile that runs on anything and has zero mandatory electrical.
I'd also recommend taking a look at VW 4 cylinder engines. They're pretty light, reasonably powerful, and they're common enough that the spare parts grow on trees.
