USPS, UPS, FedEX, etc are all old established busineses. Their workforces have no incentive to work harder than necessary to remain in business.
FedEx is even more odd in that if they have the ability to delver a package early, they won't. I've had packages sit in a warehouse for 2 days just becuase the shipping was 3 days.
However, the Amazon drivers are only driving the "last mile" from the warehouses.
