While the team acknowledges that 1-person 1-node would be the ideal, and they make it EASY for anyone even vaguely tech-savvy, the reality is that until this a no-brainer for your grandma 👵 we need an interim solution.

This is where the Hub comes in, and you can be an Uncle Jim for your friends and family with AlbyHub, if you and they would like to use that option.

As I see it, this is a far better option than them using a custodial LN wallet!

RE: PRIVACY 🕵️

To have true privacy in Lightning is very challenging!
Unless you have the tech know-how to run your own instance of LND on your own server for example, there will be some trade offs.
For most ppl currently, in order to have a Lightning address (for eg: thesimplestbitcoinbook@getalby.com) you will need
an account with an email, although it *can* be a pseudonymous email, which offers some measure of privacy.

The beauty of the new self-custodial option with Alby (npub1get…0nfm) is that you are 100% in control of your funds. You will get a 12-word seed phrase you must secure (and keep offline!) in case you ever need to restore your wallet.
You can also leave and transfer your funds out of Alby at anytime without needing ‘permission’.
