It is planned that Yorgos Chakos, the current economic advisor to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, will succeed Finance Minister Christian Lindner, who was dismissed yesterday, according to German government sources reported by the German Press Agency (dpa) today. Chakos, a member of the Social Democratic Party, currently holds the position of Deputy Minister in the Chancellery and is one of Scholz's most important advisors, responsible for economic and financial matters and negotiates on behalf of Scholz in the final documents of the G7 and G20 summits. Scholz dismissed Lindner, leader of the Free Democratic Party, yesterday after a unprecedented dispute. Lindner is expected to receive his dismissal papers from Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the Presidential Palace at 2 pm local time. After that, Chakos will receive the letter of appointment as Finance Minister. It is likely that Scholz, who accused Lindner of committing several breaches of trust and creating uncertainty, will be present during this ceremony, which is customary in such cases. Of the four ministers from the Free Democratic Party in the current federal government, Transport Minister Volker Wissing plans to remain in his position until the upcoming early elections, despite the collapse of the governing coalition, but will leave the party. According to dpa information, it is expected that ministers who are already members of the government will take on new roles, including Justice Minister Marco Buschmann and Education Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger, both from the Social Democratic Party.
