Mastodon is truly a superior platform: decentralized moderation makes a big difference. But it will never catchbup to twitter. Everyone is going to blusky.
I use mastodon because there is a bunch of university teachers and academics you can follow in an automated way by language and discipline, that's a killer feature for me and maybe also 1% of the global population.
