The only thing they did was use leaded solder which
1, does not (or very marginally) come in contact with the water in the loop
2, fares better long-term with thermal stress and vibrations, therefore arguably extending the lifetime of a product, cue smartphones using lead-free and breaking every 2 years.
lead isn’t the devil when handled responsibly, tho yes, you’d ideally want to keep it away from landfills and the like.
the push for lead-free solder comes from big electronics companies / (((environmentalists))) to make sure everything you buy breaks sooner so you have to replace it.
