in regards to sexual rights, the time period they were really in wasn't the most ideal as it was the same period where people were selling their kids to earn a living as it was ofc during the great depression, not to mention subsequent famines and the great war
So life was much rough for us to expect modern standards on situations which required people to focus on their survival and sustenance more than look for their sexual rights or other progressive ideas which again was not something that would have been present at least with the situation they were provided with
