I will go out on a limb and say the initial idea of Picard S1 of having the Federation turn insular and a future that is a depressing and profoundly disappointing feature from collective failure to rise to the occasion isn’t a bad place to start. It feels relevant given the real world today.

HOWEVER, Picard *very* poorly using that as starting place to show how compassion and logic, and the belief that people are fundamentally good can lead the characters through the darkness to a better world is disappointing.

Worse yet, the stories feel like the Futurama network execubots wrote the series. “Do you like the Borg? Here is the Borg. Do you like mature shows? Here is a torture scene. *rolls dice* FAN SERVICE!!”
