Hiking footwear seems crazy these days. Paying $175 for trail running shoes that last ~300 miles is the popular option — something like the Hoka Speedgoats. Or go old school with something like the Scarpa SL Active and they'll last the 2,200 miles of the Appalachian Trail. That'll cost you $270. But it isn't the what people buy nowadays.
I understand the comfort of trail runners but it seems really wasteful to buy shoes that need replacements so soon.
