also i have tested a similar scheme that used schnorr signatures as a MAC and it was able to push out 8mb/s/CPU thread with THREE layers of encryption - that used AES-CTR, but it's simple to make a block counter mode with any hash function and nonce/secret pair, i was working on this for a nostr noise protocol ciphersuite i'm calling 'noistr' (i'll have to finish that at some point lol)
