AI will not successfully predict crimes. At best, it will identify people the government can successfully convict of crimes.
The only reason the "justice" system isn't way worse than it is is because investigators mostly can't cast a very big net, which increases the probability that, if they prosecute someone, they committed the crime. AI throws that out the window, allowing them to cast a net over the entire population. We can easily end up with a situation where the actual probability a defendant committed a crime is 1% or less, because all prosecutors care about is convictions, not whether the person convicted actually did the crime. And that's what "justice AI" will be trained to produce.
