While the pasture isn't as lush where the sheep are headed, it has much more diversity in the forage. I think a diverse diet leads to more resilient (and flavorful) sheep. When reading Sepp Holzer, he recommends giving animals access to poisonus plants to allow them to self medicate. I've noticed sheep eating milkweed and elderberry on occasion which are supposed to be poisonous. Permaculture principals: value diversity, value marginal come to mind.
This lane of paddocks is also nice because each paddock has shade and access to flowing spring water. They should make it here by the weekend.

Pasture like this is what I'm trying to achieve all across the homestead. Good mix of legumes and grass with other plants for diversity. Not too tall, stemmy or seedy. Just heaps of exactly what the sheep love to eat. This paddock also has built in shade and water in the form of a spring. The will be here for 3 days or so.
