I thought I'd share this encounter to the #Nostr community.
Today, I was approached by someone pushing this scamturd in Barcelona. I must admit, when I looked up and saw his shirt with "worldcoin" written across, my knee jerk reaction was to instantly call the whole thing a scam (note that I had failed to notice the kiosk featuring the wretched orbs around the corner). Anyway, that wasn't the best way to start an interaction with a stranger. He wasn't exactly thrilled, but that didn't stop him from trying to convince me to scan my retina.
After informing him that I was versed on this scam and have been into #Bitcoin for quite some time, he responded by telling me that this was free money and was helping people in India (random I know). I basically went on to describe what che was ready to pitch me. He told me I was closed minded and showed me his phone and the app associated with this particular shitcoin.
When I questioned him on the perils of centralization and Sam Altman being at the helm, he only responded that my points on this topic were somehow conspiracy. He mentioned that the company treated him well that the pay was good. I questioned him on the need for biometric data and he exclaimed that it could be deleted after signup. I asked him about their distribution and privacy policy to which he had no insight. After roughly 15 minutes of heated discussion, he went off to tend to the next set of potential victims.
He also claimed to like #Bitcoin which I found interesting. I told him that what he was pushing was the total opposite of what Bitcoin was about. Although our encounter was quite heated, I hope I left an impression on him and managed to at least plant some seeds of doubt about his actions. Look, he didn't seem like a bad guy and may very well believe that what he's selling is good. Ignorance is not an excuse though, a scam is a fucking scam.
